When the app you work for is geared around protecting users’ privacy from big tech, being its chief privacy officer is all encompassing.

Zoe Vilain has a legal background and started working for Jumbo in 2019. The idea behind Jumbo's app is to have one place from which users can easily control the flow of data constantly leaking out through our various social media accounts, emails addresses, and more.

The app offers a range of features, including wholesale blocking of ad trackers, two-factor authentication, and even archiving your old embarrassing Facebook posts.

This year the app raised its first series A and launched its premium business model, which allows users to select how much they want to pay for a premium account.

While Jumbo has been getting into fighting shape, Vilain has been pursuing more large-scale privacy advocacy. She filed a GDPR complaint against Clearview AI, the facial recognition company that made headlines in January, with France's data protection watchdog in July.

“I joined Jumbo because I really believe that for once a company can make a change, and I think that consumers need protection,” Villain tells Business Insider.
